Skipper Ronnie Irani described Essex's latest one-day triumph over Kent as their most pleasing B and H victory so far. Irani led his troops to a thrilling two-wicket victory over Kent at Canterbury yesterday to earn his side a home tie against Yorkshire in the Benson & Hedges Cup quarter-finals later this month. The Essex skipper collected his second Gold Award of the season as the county surpassed Kent's 231-9 with four balls to spare. The captain scored a magnificent unbeaten 50 from only 34 deliveries to take Essex to the winning post . He said: "It was great to be there at the finish but this was a triumph built upon a superb team effort in which everyone contributed. "I would say this is our most satisfying win in the competition to date. Kent have proved themselves a tremendous one-day outfit over recent years, so to end their interest this summer was a big bonus as far as I'm concerned." Irani's half-century included four fours and a six, and followed a fluent 42 from 59 balls from Nasser Hussain and a more subdued effort from Andy Flower, whose 32 spanned 64 deliveries and contained just one four. Now Irani is looking forward to the meeting against Yorkshire. "There are no easy ties at this stage but we don't fear anyone, particularly at Chelmsford," he said. "There's a great spirit in the camp and quite a few players are in form. I have a feeling we can go all the way."
